Thanks! You´ve helped me really a lot! I haven´t expected to get such detailed information.
Do you know the dates of closures in the old town
of Prague? Did the routes which crossed Staroměstské náměstí still exist after World War II?

Sure there was. First trolley-bus appeared on its route between Vozovna Střešovice and Svatý Matěj on 29th August 1936. For this very first line three cars from three main CZ producers -Škoda, Tatra and Praga- were delivered. Next route opened in 1939 on line to Waltrovka, a strategic factory for aeroplane equipment. After the war, the network raised quickly and in 1959-1960 there were 174 trolley buses for 11 lines and about 60km of network. Then in consequences to cheap soviet fuel and evacuation plans in case of nuclear war the trolley-buses were found useless. First closed line was 51 in 1959, the oldest one from year 1936, that never had any connection to other network, the last closed was 51 as well:), a new route made between Orionka and Stadion Jih, on 16.10.1972. Still, Prague has 70 meters of a trolley-bus line and one functional trolleybus, both in the tram-museum.ĐURO ĐAKOVIĆ píše:Gab es in Prag nicht auch einmal ein O-Busnetz?
In fact there is no line to be re-opened without building a long part of route. The rails you mean may be those left from the route near Hauptbahnhof but they are very shortened and now disconnected to other network. However, there are no plans to build the route in Mezibranská street again because of the existing parallel route in street Škrétova.
Yes, that is right. When Prague had all three lines of Metro in 1985, there was no place for trams in the city-centre any more. After the revolution in 1989 some people realized that a mistake was made and from the middle of 90's there are serious plans to build the routes again. No matter how long they were closed, if there is a need of them.
Danke!

But the tram used this street in the past, didn´t it?[...]3-Because all is just plan, there is no wide public discussion about returning trams. There are some discussion between politics, because Na Příkopě is commercially very lucrative street. In fact, there are more tourists than Prag inhabitans there... Pedestrian zone is also problem, but bigger problem is that 28.října street (between Václavské náměstí and Národní třída) is quite narrow.
I totally agree with you. A tram would mean shorter distances between the stops at the surface and a dense network of public transport in the centre. Metro and tram are supposed to fulfill different traffic flows.Because A and B metro line is very deeply builded, tram line in centre parallel to metro line is not the biggest problem. In this case tram can serve better for local transport then metro.
In Germany this understandig is not very common; the opening of a metro line means the closure of parallel tram lines - sometimes of all the whole tram network in the area around the metro.

1-No this is one user fiction. In fact people in Bohnice vote against trams. Line to Suchdol is in plans, but only as a possibility for feature.Ðuro Ðakovic píše:1-http://tram-forum.prazsketramvaje.cz/ ... uchdol.gif Are the plans shown on this map realistic?
2-Will there be a tram line in Hybernská again, if TT Náměstí Republiky - Národní Třída is built? What about the old route in Na Florenci?
3-What is the public opinion about the revival of the tram in the centre? Na Příkopě is a pedestrian precinct today, isn´t it? In Germany this would cause lots of problems for the tram. And new tram lines which run parallel to the underground would be impossible.

-TT Muzeum - Můstek was closed in 1980 (substituted by metro line A), TT Náměstí Republiky - Národní Třída was closed in 1985 (metro line B).Anonymous píše:http://www.metroweb.cz/tram/navrhyTT.htm
This is the project, I´m really interested in. I think these would be reactivations of old tram routes, which were closed due to the inauguration of the metro, right?
Is the schedule (2009-2011) realistic? Is it already agreed by the town council? I would be very glad, if the tram came back to the heart of Prague.
Do you know any links to historic maps of the Prague tram network? The oldest I know is from 1981 ( http://people.freenet.de/pragstraba/ima ... g_1981.gif).
Was there a tram route between Central Station and Muzeum before metro line A was opened?
Do you know any lists of closes tram routes in Prague?
Are there any plans to close tram lines in Prague (e.g. because of new metro routes)?
Thanks!
-2009-2011 may be technically realistic, but it's more political then technical problem. Town council doesn't resolve it yet. Maybe only TT Muzeum - Vodickova (middle of Vaclavske namesti) will be built.
-There was tram route between Muzeum and Central railway station, closed in 1978, substituted by metro line C. There are some project to build this line again.
-Informations about closed lines are on http://www.prazsketramvaje.cz, but in Czech.
-There are no plans to close tram line. New metro lines will not substitued trams.
