Sure there was. First trolley-bus appeared on its route between Vozovna Střešovice and Svatý Matěj on 29th August 1936. For this very first line three cars from three main CZ producers -Škoda, Tatra and Praga- were delivered. Next route opened in 1939 on line to Waltrovka, a strategic factory for aeroplane equipment. After the war, the network raised quickly and in 1959-1960 there were 174 trolley buses for 11 lines and about 60km of network. Then in consequences to cheap soviet fuel and evacuation plans in case of nuclear war the trolley-buses were found useless. First closed line was 51 in 1959, the oldest one from year 1936, that never had any connection to other network, the last closed was 51 as well:), a new route made between Orionka and Stadion Jih, on 16.10.1972. Still, Prague has 70 meters of a trolley-bus line and one functional trolleybus, both in the tram-museum.
Wenn die Strecke Muzeum - Hauptbahnhof reaktiviert werden sollte, ist dann auch mit dem Wiederaufbau zwischen Muzeum und I.P. Pavlova zu rechnen?
In fact there is no line to be re-opened without building a long part of route. The rails you mean may be those left from the route near Hauptbahnhof but they are very shortened and now disconnected to other network. However, there are no plans to build the route in Mezibranská street again because of the existing parallel route in street Škrétova.
Warum stellte man die Strecken in der Innenstadt ein, wenn man gleichzeitig in den Vororten den Parallelverkehr von Metro und Straßenbahn duldete? Aus dem gleichen Prestigedenken wie auch in der BRD, also um eine straßenbahnfreie Innenstadt zu schaffen?
Und seit wann macht man sich ernsthaft Gedanken, die Strecken wieder aufzubauen? Sie wurden ja größtenteils erst in den 80ern stillgelegt.
Yes, that is right. When Prague had all three lines of Metro in 1985, there was no place for trams in the city-centre any more. After the revolution in 1989 some people realized that a mistake was made and from the middle of 90's there are serious plans to build the routes again. No matter how long they were closed, if there is a need of them.
